“Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.” 2 Corinthians 4:10
This week’s topic on suffering attempts to answer the question, “Where is God amidst suffering?” We are constantly bombarded with stories of war, famine, disease, poverty, inequity and abuse that it’s easy to become desensitized—stirring up a wave of emotions that pummels our capacity to feel. Perhaps we have asked God this question out of an experience of intense suffering so deep, that it is felt within the body—through shoulder pangs or lower-back aches, unexplainable illness or incurable cancer, irreversible physical wounds or unseen psychological pains.
But in the midst of suffering, perhaps our bodies are inviting us to experience newness of Life.
Jesus brings about this newness of Life in all its joy, beauty and healing.
God, may this experience of suffering in my body bring about newness of Life.
